Going Green with Crazy Crayons
February 3, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
Trendy Tip mom’s as you know, I am always looking for ways to go Green and thanks to another Trendy mom, I just found another way to do my little part. On a daily basis I am picking up broken crayons and tossing them in the trash. NO MORE now we have a great little box ready to recycle. The kids and I took a shoe box and decorated it full of color and cut a small hole in the top. It now sits with our other recycle bins ready to gather broken crayons. So if your crayon box has gotten out of hand, Crazy Crayonsmight be the place for you. Founder LuAnn Foty is on a mission to recycle those old crayons kids don’t want to use anymore. You can send your old crayons (or those from your school, daycare or church) and they are recycled into new, multi-colored molded crayons. You can get turtles, hearts, dinosaurs or seasonal varieties. All of them are really cool and they color in a nice, randomly colored pattern.
Recycling crayons may not change the world, but it’s a lot of fun and a great way to introduce your little ones to the idea of recycling in a way they can really relate to and enjoy…

National CRAYON RECYCLE PROGRAM |

-
LuAnn Foty, founder of CRAZY CRAYONS and the CRAYON RECYCLING PROGRAM has been in business for 14 years
-
The CRAYON RECYCLE PROGRAM is an educational tool, a “doing your part for the Earth” project, and a community service. Be creative with this recycle program. A crayon drive can be organized by kids and brought to a community level.
-
All CRAZY CRAYON purchases benefit the CRAYON RECYCLING PROGRAM.
Another great idea from Martha Stuart
http://www.marthastewart.com/article/crazy-crayons
Heat makes a crayon a little loopy; it may melt into a swirl or pool into a whirl. With this in mind, we chopped up crayons and baked them in shaped mini cake tins, making large blocks that are easy for toddlers to hold and will surely inspire older artists. Encourage kids to come up with combinations: A blue-and-white blend for drawing the sky, for example, and a mix of reds and oranges for sunsets.
Tools and Materials
Kitchen knife
Old crayons
Mini-cake tins (we used pans with heart- and circle-shaped pockets)
Crayon How-To
1. Parents can use the knife to chop crayons into pea-size pieces, taking care to keep colors separate so kids can combine them as they like.
2. Preheat the oven to 150 degrees while children fill the tin with crayon pieces, arranging them in interesting designs.
3. Bake just until the waxes have melted, 15 to 20 minutes.
4. Remove the shapes after they have cooled. If they stick, place tray in the freezer for an hour, and the crayons will pop out.

If U Seek Amy - Racy Lyrics Rock the Radio
January 24, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
“If U Seek Amy” Racy or Rocking
Last time this trendy mom checked the radio, media, and the rest of the world including Britney Spears weren’t responsible for raising my children. So what is up with all the hoopla around Britney Spears new single “If U Seek Amy” The Parents Television Council is warning parents about the Britney Spears song “If U Seek Amy” and urging radio stations not to broadcast it because they believe it violates the broadcast indecency law if aired between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. The Parents Television Council is livid that Britney Spears‘ cunningly titled
“If U Seek Amy” is getting radio play, despite the fact that the title and lyrics essentially say F-U-C-K Me.”
I just don’t get it. Can someone give me the low down on what in the F-U-C-K people are complaining about? If your children are between the ages of 1 - 9 like mine, it’s likely that your children don’t even catch the undertone of what is being said in Britney Spears new single “If U Seek Amy”. As for those with kid’s over the age of 9 – get serious, if you haven’t ever sworn in front of your child at this point and they have never heard you utter the word FUCK – What the F-U-C-K is wrong with you. That is right I do swear in front of my children, not often but it does happen and I am far from apologizing for it. Here’s a News Alert – even if your 9 year old wiz kid gets the under tone of the song, “If You See Amy” seize the opportunity to have an open dialog with your child and answer any questions they may have about it. Wow novel idea right? Use what happens in the media to help educate your child instead of letting someone else do it for you. Britney Spears has a tough enough time raising her own two children – don’t leave her to be your child’s moral compass. My children know that they are not to swear, but not because these are naught words but instead because they are ADULT words. Don’t get me wrong I don’t condone that my children swear but I would be an idiot to think that it will never happen and an even bigger idiot if I thought that they hadn’t heard those words on the play ground a time or 20.
Thank god that the controversy hasn’t stopped U.S. radio stations from playing “If You Seek Amy.” Six top 40 stations have the song in rotation this week, enough to place the track at No. 92 on the Billboard Pop 100 chart.
In my opinion, if you don’t like the song and you feel that the words might burst the bubble that you’re living in, then don’t allow your children to listen to it. This Trendy Tip mom and many others know that there are other things in the world much worse than Ms. Britney Spears getting her career back on track to worry about.
So listen away to Britney’s new single “If you Seek Amy” and sing aloud like I do – “All of the boys and girls are waiting to F-U-C-K me.”
PS Way to go Britney – you got them talking and I see
another #1 hit on the horizon…

Score Big with Superbowl Snacks
January 23, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
Score a “Touchdown” this Superbowl
with the perfect Football Finger Foods
Check out my top three Superbowl Snacks that Score Big
It’s Super Bowl time again! Weather you are having a few friends over for the game or heading out for a party, knowing what to bring is always a trick. I’m always keeping my eyes open for Finger Foods and Party Snacks that impress.
My first pick is an Artichoke Dip with a little Football KICK. I have served it at a few parties now and it has become one of my signature requests. You can adjust the “heat” of the dip to your personal preference by the amount of jalapeno peppers used.
Artichoke, Jalapeño and Parmesan Dip
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
4 pickled jalapeño peppers, seeded and finely chopped
1 (6-ounce) jar marinated artichoke hearts, drain, reserve marinade
2 teaspoons
Tabasco green jalapeño sauce
Kosher or coarse salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
1. Use a food processor with metal blade to finely grate Parmesan cheese. Add the cream cheese, mixing well. Transfer cheese mixture to a mixing bowl.
Chop jalapeño peppers in processor; add drained artichoke hearts and process just until coarsely chopped. Add artichoke/jalapeño mixture and the jalapeño sauce to cheese mixture. Mix well. If needed, add small amount of additional marinade to obtain desired consistency. Salt and pepper to taste. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Serve with a variety of crackers or chips.
Take a Hint from Rachel Ray
Baked Jalapeno Peppers
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
4 ounces Manchego cheese, grated
2 to 3 tablespoons green salad olives with pimientos, finely chopped
2 tablespoons chopped parsley or cilantro
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Preparation Preheat the oven to 425°F.
Slice off a lengthwise piece of each jalapeño then, using a small spoon or paring knife, scrape the seeds out of each pepper to make little jalapeño canoes. Chop the tops finely and add to a mixing bowl with the cream cheese, Manchego, green olives, parsley, salt and freshly ground black pepper. Use a small spoon to fill the canoes or transfer the mixture to a re-sealable plastic bag, snip off the end and squeeze the mixture into the hulls of your jalapeño canoes. Arrange the peppers on cookie sheet, transfer to the oven and roast for 15 minutes.
BANG BANG SHRIMP
1 lb shrimp, shelled and deveined (31-40 count work best)
½ cup mayonnaise
¼ cup Thai Sweet Chili Sauce
5-10 drops Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce (add more to your personal spicy taste)
Corn Starch to coat the shrimp in
Mix mayo and sauces for coating . .set aside
Coat shrimp in corn starch
Deep fry the shrimp until lightly brown (4-5 minutes)
Drain on paper towel, toss in a bowl w/ the sauce
Serve in a lettuce lined bowl, top w/ chopped scallions

Favorite Music Memories - What’s on your shuffle?
November 25, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
1000 Songs – Unlimited Memories
I’ve been listening to my iPod on shuffle recently and it’s been surprisingly enjoyable. With 1000’s of songs to pick from I usually always tune into the same bands and recent tunes like. Since I decided to put a little shuffle back in my life, I keep hearing music I haven’t heard in years. Weather at home or work or just driving about town doing my busy mom duties, I find myself singing out loud. (Don’t You Judge Me) I know you do it to and if you don’t, you should take a chance and shuffle your ipod like I did .
I found it amazing how music can make you remember that certain moment or time in life in such a perfect way. Kind of like how a certain smell will bring you back to a specific moment more intensely than your memory alone ever could do.
Here are a few of my Favorite Music Memories maybe they will bring you back too. What are some of your favorites Music Memories???? I’m hoping you’ll share your Favorite Music Memories with our trendy tip mom family…
NKOTB That’s right New Kids on The Block – I know pretty sick that I have these tunes on my ipod seeing as we are years past the tape deck days of the late 80’s
Snoop Dog– Rollin down the street, smoking indo, sippin’ on gin and juice Laid back(with my mind on my money and my money on my mind)
Smashing Pumpkins –Shakedown 1979, cool kids never have the time. On a live wire right up off the street You and I should meet. Takes me back to 993 the summer after my senior year in high school, Pumpkins concert when the world was simple and I wasn’t working 90 hours a week. Wow what a time in my life and what a summer to remember.
Madonna – True Blue I’ve looked into their eyes
But I never knew love before
‘Til you walked through my door
I’ve had other lips
I’ve sailed a thousand ships
But no matter where I go
You’re the one for me baby this I know, ’cause it’s
(Chorus:)
True love
You’re the one I’m dreaming of
Your heart fits me like a glove
And I’m gonna be true blue baby I love you

Motivators for Mom’s on the Move - Do Super Mom’s Exist?
November 11, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
Top Motivators for Mom’s on the Move
Any mother will tell you that raising a family, keeping a house, and working outside the home can make getting the little things done harder. Often it is very difficult for a working mom to stay focused and motivated throughout the day knowing the countless things both work and home that they need to accomplish. Finding a way to organize is one of my top tips for stay motivated. Next time your motivation is lacking, think about these Trendy TIps to help get you through the day.
Motivation determines what and how you do things right? So it makes sense that having a clear purpose in mind and a good attitude can be great ways to stay motivated. If you’re like me that’s easier said than done. Waking at the crack of dawn to Shower, Pack Lunches Get the kids off to school and yourself off to work, and that’s all before 7:00 a.m. There are however, ways to keep yourself motivated so that you can accomplish more and get yourself through the long days of mothering.
Purpose: Purpose gives you a clear mental state and helps you look at your task in an objective manner. If something does not help you reach your end goal, then it should not be one of your goals.
To Do List: I am a list maker. Making a list of my daily goals helps me to stay focused during the day and know what you still need to accomplish. As I complete each important task I mark it off the list. Seeing the list of things I’ve accomplished helps me feel like I have met my goals and gets me motivated for the next day. This is also one of the top ways for me to get my mind off work as I get home.
Get off the Procrastination High Way. Be a good lead by example to your kids. Avoiding important tasks and chores won’t help you reach your goals. Stay motivated, work on your jobs to finish them. Not only will you accomplish more but you won’t feel as rushed at the last minute. You will also show your children that staying focused will help them meet their goals even if they don’t really want to do them.
Talk About It: Keeping your concerns or feelings inside can lead to reduced productivity and increased stress. Talking with a friend, a spouse or my favorite item is my daily journal. It is a perfect last personal blogg to note my daily accomplishments and remind my self how lucky I am and at least one special thing I appreciated that day about my kids or my spouse.
Super Mom’s Don’t Exist You’ll never accomplish all your goals everyday, “It’s OK”. The idea that there is such a thing as a “super mom” isn’t realistic. Simplify – It’s ok to take shortcuts on things; Snacks for school parties – get store bought treats instead of stressing yourself out. If you expect perfection of yourself it will be near impossible to reach your goals. It is also ok to say no or to ask for help when you need to.
Do you Pass the Stress Test: Putting yourself under stress each and every day is not healthy, nor will it inspire you. Stress can put you in a greater danger for depression and other health issues and if you don’t think your kids can see your stress, you’re wrong.
Reward yourself: Rewards can be a huge motivator for anyone. Even if you reward yourself with a new book or thirty minutes of quiet time, you will be more likely to reach your goals with rewards

Celebrity and Mother of Two - Still dares to bare all!!
November 8, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
The actress and mother of two goes naked for a magazine shoot.
On the cover of the next edition of Vanity Fair Kate is seen on a fur rug wearing stockings and stilettos.
The 33 year old actress and mother of two looks amazing. A picture perfect body and complexion that is if she is still against airbrushed magazine shoots, we can assume the pictures haven’t been retouched.
Don’t get me wrong moms, this Trendy Tip mommy is all about celebrating the hard work each of us puts in to maintain a fabulous body but really….. Celebrity or Mom I have to say, “Why is it so necessary to bare it all?” Let’s get real Kate is beautiful and yes she has never been one to shy away from nudity in movies, but why is it so necessary to blaze the cover of magazines in almost nothing. Have a little dignity and respect for yourself in knowing that you can show your beauty in trendy fashions and fabulous coutier.
The mother of two children, Mia, eight, and Joe, five, had this to say when recently interviewed by www.dailymail.co.uk: “I know when I walk into that classrom in the morning, even if it’s for a split second, at some point I’m being checked out. Some of them will even say to me, ‘OK, what’s the secret with the skin?’ At which point I’m like, ‘Oh my God, there’s no secret. I have make-up on. And by the way, since I turned 30 I’ve had an acne problem on my chin. I’m just like everybody else - I just know how to cover it. If you’d like me to show you how, I’d be more than happy.”
I just have to ask, “When is enough enough when it comes to celebrity Mom’s baring it all?”
What kind of example are we setting for our youth and the celebrity youth - Looks like to me we are setting the example that you need to be over the top and dressed in less to grab attention.
Vanity Fair once again proved they are not afraid to cause controversy – they published Miley Cyrus’s topless pictures a few months ago.
