Favorite Music Memories - What’s on your shuffle?

November 25, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

1000 Songs – Unlimited Memories

I’ve been listening to my iPod on shuffle recently and it’s been surprisingly enjoyable.  With 1000’s of songs to pick from I usually always tune into the same bands and recent tunes like.  Since I decided to put a little shuffle back in my life, I keep hearing music I haven’t heard in years. Weather at home or work or just driving about town doing my busy mom duties, I find myself singing out loud. (Don’t You Judge Me) I know you do it to and if you don’t, you should take a chance and shuffle your ipod like I did .

I found it amazing how music can make you remember that certain moment or time in life in such a perfect way.  Kind of like how a certain smell will bring you back to a specific moment more intensely than your memory alone ever could do.

Here are a few of my Favorite Music Memories maybe they will bring you back too. What are some of your favorites Music Memories???? I’m hoping you’ll share your Favorite Music Memories with our trendy tip mom family…

NKOTB That’s right New Kids on The Block – I know pretty sick that I have these tunes on my ipod seeing as we are years past the tape deck days of the late 80’s

Snoop Dog– Rollin down the street, smoking indo, sippin’ on gin and juice Laid back(with my mind on my money and my money on my mind)

Smashing Pumpkins –Shakedown 1979, cool kids never have the time.  On a live wire right up off the street You and I should meet.  Takes me back to 993 the summer after my senior year in high school, Pumpkins concert when the world was simple and I wasn’t working 90 hours  a week. Wow what a time in my life and what a summer to remember.

Madonna – True Blue I’ve looked into their eyes
But I never knew love before
‘Til you walked through my door
I’ve had other lips
I’ve sailed a thousand ships
But no matter where I go
You’re the one for me baby this I know, ’cause it’s
(Chorus:)
True love
You’re the one I’m dreaming of
Your heart fits me like a glove
And I’m gonna be true blue baby I love you

Heating Your Home - Quick Trendy Tips to Go Green

November 21, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

Is heating your house burning a hole in the ozone?

Quick Trendy Tips to Go Green

The bad news is that almost 50 percent of your household energy costs go toward two things - heating and cooling. The good news is you have a lot of room to make small changes that can make dramatic improvements in household efficiency.

Did you know that replace your older heating and cooling systems with an efficiency models can cut your annual energy costs by almost 20 percent. Replacing the old with the new is a wonderful idea, but not the most practical for most of us.

Here as some quick Trendy Mom Tips for things you can do right now to make sure you’re house is using your household energy more efficiently:

·        Tune up your heating system. By keeping your furnace clean, lubricated and properly adjusted, you can save up to 5 percent in heating costs.

·        Clean vents, close unused vents, and change filters in the vents. Again, just these simple things will save you up to 5 percent in costs.

·        Buy a programmable thermostat, which can regulate different temperatures at different times of the day. And if you have one, use it! These thermostats reduce energy use by 5-30 percent and save you $100-$150 in energy costs each year.

If only 1 in 10 households serviced heating and cooling systems annually, cleaned or replaced filters regularly, or replaced old equipment with brands like ENERGY STAR models, it would prevent the emissions of more than 17 billion pounds of greenhouse gases.

·        Add two degrees to the AC thermostat in summer, and two degrees in winter. If everyone did this, the cumulative impact is significant.

·        Make sure windows and doors are sealed. Again, this will dramatically improve your household fuel efficiency. Sealing air leaks and adding insulation can reduce your annual energy bill by 10 percent.

·        Of course, if you can stand it, by far the best approach is to avoid using air conditioners.  Ceiling fans use 80 percent less energy than central air conditioners. By only using ceiling fans you can reduce your annual cooling costs by 10-65 percent. In warm weather run the fan blades in a counter-clockwise direction to feel 5 degrees cooler. During the winter set the fan blades to rotate clockwise at a low speed to force warm air from the ceiling down into the living space.

Motivators for Mom’s on the Move - Do Super Mom’s Exist?

November 11, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

Top Motivators for Mom’s on the Move

Any mother will tell you that raising a family, keeping a house, and working outside the home can make getting the little things done harder. Often it is very difficult for a working mom to stay focused and motivated throughout the day knowing the countless things both work and home that they need to accomplish.  Finding a way to organize is one of my top tips for stay motivated. Next time your motivation is lacking, think about these Trendy TIps to help get you through the day.

Motivation determines what and how you do things right?  So it makes sense that having a clear purpose in mind and a good attitude can be great ways to stay motivated. If you’re like me that’s easier said than done. Waking at the crack of dawn to Shower, Pack Lunches Get the kids off to school and yourself off to work, and that’s all before 7:00 a.m.  There are however, ways to keep yourself motivated so that you can accomplish more and get yourself through the long days of mothering.

Purpose: Purpose gives you a clear mental state and helps you look at your task in an objective manner. If something does not help you reach your end goal, then it should not be one of your goals.

To Do List: I am a list maker.  Making a list of my daily goals helps me to stay focused during the day and know what you still need to accomplish. As I complete each important task I mark it off the list. Seeing the list of things I’ve accomplished helps me feel like I have met my goals and gets me motivated for the next day.  This is also one of the top ways for me to get my mind off work as I get home.

Get off the Procrastination High Way. Be a good lead by example to your kids. Avoiding important tasks and chores won’t help you reach your goals.  Stay motivated, work on your jobs to finish them. Not only will you accomplish more but you won’t feel as rushed at the last minute.  You will also show your children that staying focused will help them meet their goals even if they don’t really want to do them.

Talk About It: Keeping your concerns or feelings inside can lead to reduced productivity and increased stress. Talking with a friend, a spouse or my favorite item is my daily journal. It is a perfect last personal blogg to note my daily accomplishments and remind my self how lucky I am and at least one special thing I appreciated that day about my kids or my spouse.

Super Mom’s Don’t Exist You’ll never accomplish all your goals everyday, “It’s OK”. The idea that there is such a thing as a “super mom” isn’t realistic. Simplify – It’s ok to take shortcuts on things; Snacks for school parties – get store bought treats instead of stressing yourself out.  If you expect perfection of yourself it will be near impossible to reach your goals. It is also ok to say no or to ask for help when you need to.

Do you Pass the Stress Test:  Putting yourself under stress each and every day is not healthy, nor will it inspire you. Stress can put you in a greater danger for depression and other health issues and if you don’t think your kids can see your stress, you’re wrong.

Reward yourself: Rewards can be a huge motivator for anyone. Even if you reward yourself with a new book or thirty minutes of quiet time, you will be more likely to reach your goals with rewards

Working Mom’s need help too…

November 10, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

Working moms need help too….After spending the weekend cleaning bathrooms, scrubbing floors, doing laundry and grocery shopping needless to say I found myself exausted and left with little energy to spend time with those most important to me in life, MY FAMILY.  How did this happen?  I had to imagine that I wasn’t the only Working Mom out there that feels this way, or am I?

To clear my head I found this great article and source that let me know I wasn’t alone and neither are you.  Check out this great piece on the advantages of hiring someone to help with the less important things in life to make time for the more important things in life.

Do The Math - Then do less, make more and spend more quality time with your family.  By Dr. Debra Condren

Here’s what I often hear from working moms:

“I love my career. That said, it demands a ton of hours. At home, I manage kids’ schedules, laundry, plus most nights I field the question, “What should we do for dinner?”

“I’m overwhelmed. Basically, I need another me. How can I stop being stretched too thin?”

Sound familiar?

Do you have an overdeveloped sense of responsibility, doing everything yourself so it’ll be done right, or to “save” money? (If you’re a woman, you’re 110% percent more likely to answer yes than are the guys in your life.) Have you ever calculated how much this is costing you? I’m guessing not.

Time to do the math.

First, figure out the real price tag for hiring someone to lighten your load.

Let’s say you clear $100,000 a year operating a small consulting firm; that breaks down to $48 per hour. Now let’s say you spend six hours a week running errands that anyone with a car and a sense of direction could do. Plus six hours a week doing household chores. That comes out to $576 (12 hours x $48/hour). You could hire a competent person to do the same work for $18 per hour ($216). So you’re losing $360 a week by doing the work yourself.

Right about now you may be thinking, “That’s easy to say for someone who makes $100,000; I can’t afford it, though.” Okay. Let’s do the math with $75K. That breaks down to $36 per hour. Now let’s say you spend six hours a week running errands that anyone with a car and a sense of direction could do. Plus six hours doing household chores. That comes out to $432 (12 hours x $36/hour). So you’re still come out ahead.

Every hour you needlessly burn up by failing to delegate is time you could be investing in your career, taking on exciting new project opportunities, positioning yourself for advancement, networking with colleagues, potential clients, and movers and shakers, and freeing up more time for yourself and for quality time with your family—and it’s one of the key ways women self-sabotage.

I’ve worked with hundreds of women who have trouble rationalizing outsourcing—and it doesn’t matter how much they earn. If you crunch the numbers, however, you’ll have objective figures that prove it makes sense to free up your time for what really counts.

Ask around and find yourself a good cleaning person, a part-time or full-time executive assistant, a computer whiz, and other support people that can complete tasks for a fraction of the time or money it would take you to do it yourself.

Stop wasting time thinking “I need another me” and spend the money for a “mini-me”. You’ll end up a lot richer—at home, and at work.

Dr. Debra Condren is the author of, amBITCHous (Broadway Books), a woman’s guide to earning her worth and achieving her dreams—with integrity. Ask Debra any question now at: Debra@AmbitionIsNotADirtyWord.com.

About the Author: Debra Condren, Ph.D., interviewed 500 women for her book, amBITCHous, a woman’s guide to redefining ambition as a virtue, not a dirty word.

Still don’t think you can afford to hire someone to help - Try these quick Trendy Mom Tips.

Thirty seconds is longer than you think. In the time it takes to prep a bowl of cereal for the kids, you can:

1.    Prevent soap scum buildup in your shower with a few quick squirts of daily shower spray.

2.    Swipe the bathroom counter with a disinfectant wipe, clearing it of hairspray, toothpaste and soap scum.

If you have two minutes, you can:

1.    Gather stray clutter into a laundry basket. (Just be sure to put everything away later — after all, you can only hide so many filled laundry baskets in your hallway closet!)

2.    Sweep high-traffic areas, like the entryway or bathroom floor.

3.    Vacuum tops of ceiling fan blades and reduce the amount of dust swirling through the room.

November 10, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

How Much Water Should You Drink to Lose Weight?

Below are three tips from The Biggest Loser trainers on how to get and stay in shape.
Saying you can’t get in shape because you don’t have two hours every day to exercise is just another excuse for doing nothing. Start small, because small can only get bigger.

·       Choose natural, unprocessed foods. A good rule of thumb: If it grows out of the ground or you can pick it off a tree, chances are it’s good for you.

·       Invest in a good pair of workout shoes. Not only is it important for your feet, but it is a motivating reminder to help you get moving.

Why water is necessary

1. Our bodies contain over 70 percent water.

2. You can go longer without food than water.

3. Our bodies need a lot of water to function efficiently.

4. Water helps flush out harmful toxins and thus readies the body for fat loss.

When your body is not getting enough water

~It tries to hold on to the water it has. Since over 70 percent of our muscle is made of water, the lack of it makes our body use the existing water for other functions, leaving you bloated.

~How do you get rid of that excess water? By drinking enough water!

Celebrate Fall with a Movie - Madagascar Escape2Africa

November 9, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

Madagascar Escape2Africa

What’s a more perfect way to celebrate fall and the quick approach into winter?  A Sunday afternoon Movie.  In the winter months my 7 yr old and I typically enjoy a weekend matinee, while my husband catches up on the Sunday Ticket (Football) It is always a great way to bond and perfect mommy and me time with my oldest daughter.

Our trendy pick of the week was Madagascar Escape2Africa. And it gets a Trendy MOM kids shoe must see..

Madagascar Escape2Africa - As usual DreamWorks does a wonderful job of making a movie that is enjoyable for kids and adults alike.  All the fun and fantasy that grabs our children’s attention but at the same time troughs in some adult humor to keep the parents entertained. Filled with music, dancing, and laughter filled moments.

Alex, Marty Melman and Gloria and the whole Madagascar gang strive to head home to New York City but end up back home where it all began – Africa.  These lovable characters find themselves back in the wild – where they discovers their roots, and work to determine if this beautiful place is better then the home they have grown to know in Central Park.

In the highly-anticipated sequel to “Madagascar”- was well worth the weight and we loved it.

The voices of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett Smith, Sacha Baron Cohen, Cedric The Entertainer, Andy Richter, Bernie Mac, Sherri Shepherd, Alec Baldwin and will.i.am. bring this star studded group of characters to life and into our hearts.

Enjoy the movie:

Is My Salad Making Me Fat? - The Truth about Salad

November 9, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

“Is My Salad Making Me Fat?”

It’s Sunday and like every week I am in the kitchen, rigorously planning meals in prep for the busy week to come.  As a working mom I have definitely learned that if we don’t have planned out meals and even some prepped ahead of time, Fast Food becomes our family’s best friend. Well for several months now I have been taking Sunday afternoons to make a weekly meal plan and it has been an amazing positive impact on our budget as well as our eating habits.

In support of my healthy eating habits my husband has committed to Eating Salad at least once a day.  OK Trend Tip moms this is where the funny part comes in- My husbands idea of Eating Salad is a head of lettuce topped with a lb of cheese, bacon bits , croutons and don’t let me forget the container of buttermilk ranch.   How can he always find a way to make any healthy menu items rich with fat and preservatives?  It got me thinking so of course I let my fingers do some research and came across a few great articles that I thought were Perfect in title and content and had to share with all the other Salad eating Trendy Mom’s out there: “Is My Salad Making Me Fat?”  Well whether you choose vinaigrette that’s loaded with oil or add an overly generous sprinkling of honey-toasted nuts, it’s easy to pile on extra fat and calories without even realizing it. One of the pieces I read mentions that several restaurant salad with dressing can even have as many as 1,000 calories.

The great article I read is by Carly Young – Special to Life Script – I hope you like the article as much as I did.  “Is My Salad Making Me Fat?”

Although salads are usually perceived as healthy diet food, piling extra goodies on top of your greens can wreck havoc on any healthy eating plan. Mounds of dressing, endless chunks of full-fat cheese and a slew of greasy bacon bits won’t help you shrink your waistline. If you want a salad that’s truly good for you, make sure you use the right combination of ingredients. First, start with your base – spinach, romaine lettuce, chicory, and arugula are all great choices. If you can’t decide on just one to choose, then don’t. Create a mixture of several leafy greens to surprise your taste buds with an unexpected combination of flavors and textures. Next, add some protein. Grilled chicken, egg whites, walnuts, lentils, and tofu are all delicious. A real protein superstar is salmon, which is packed with heart-protecting omega-3 fatty acids. To keep your salads interesting, try using different marinades on cooked meats or tofu (you can bake or grill the tofu beforehand or just use the raw cubes). One day, coat chicken in lemon juice before grilling and throw it onto your greens. The next day, try marinating tofu in a soy-ginger chili sauce to add some extra zing. While you should limit the serving of protein to 3 ounces, you have license to go wild with extra fruits and veggies. Throw on cherry tomatoes, apple slices, shredded carrots, mushrooms, beets, and grapes with abandon. Their high fiber content will keep you full, and their antioxidants will fight free radical damage. To ensure that you have the optimal amount of antioxidants, take a look at the color of your salad. If it’s a beautiful mixture of color, then you’re good to go. Next, it’s time to add dressing, the finishing touch. Since fats help keep your salad healthy, don’t think your only choices are tasteless, non-fat dressings. Olive oil, low-fat ranch, low-fat Italian, and balsamic vinaigrette are all good choices. Now the only thing left to do? Dig in and congratulate yourself for making a food choice that will benefit your body, mind and waist!

Celebrity and Mother of Two - Still dares to bare all!!

November 8, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

The actress and mother of two goes naked for a magazine shoot.

On the cover of the next edition of Vanity Fair Kate is seen on a fur rug wearing stockings and stilettos.

The 33 year old actress and mother of two looks amazing.  A picture perfect body and complexion  that is if she is still against airbrushed magazine shoots,  we can assume the pictures haven’t been retouched.

Don’t get me wrong moms, this Trendy Tip mommy is all about celebrating the hard work each of us puts in to maintain a fabulous body but really…..  Celebrity or Mom I have to say, “Why is it so necessary to bare it all?” Let’s get real Kate is beautiful and yes she has never been one to shy away from nudity in movies, but why is it so necessary to blaze the cover of magazines in almost nothing.  Have a little dignity and respect for yourself in knowing that you can show your beauty in trendy fashions and fabulous coutier.

The mother of two children, Mia, eight, and Joe, five, had this to say when recently interviewed by www.dailymail.co.uk: “I know when I walk into that classrom in the morning, even if it’s for a split second, at some point I’m being checked out.  Some of them will even say to me, ‘OK, what’s the secret with the skin?’ At which point I’m like, ‘Oh my God, there’s no secret. I have make-up on. And by the way, since I turned 30 I’ve had an acne problem on my chin. I’m just like everybody else - I just know how to cover it. If you’d like me to show you how, I’d be more than happy.”

I just have to ask, “When is enough enough when it comes to celebrity Mom’s baring it all?”

What kind of example are we setting for our youth and the celebrity youth - Looks like to me we are setting the example that you need to be over the top and dressed in less to grab attention.

Vanity Fair once again proved they are not afraid to cause controversy – they published Miley Cyrus’s topless pictures a few months ago.

The Facts on ACAI Berries - Weight Loss Tips that Work

November 8, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

The Facts on Acai Berries and Green Tea Helping with Weight Loss:

Harvested by Brazilians for hundreds of years as a food staple and for their rejuvenating and detoxifying properties, Acai berries (fruit of Amazonian Acai Palms) have been all over the media, from articles in fitness magazines to features on popular television programs like 0prah and the Today show, and thousands of people all over the world say that Acai berry products help them live a healthier life that is full of energy and vitality.

But we’ve taken these little purple powerhouses one step further. By combining Acai extract with a combination of nutrients including Chromium, Green Tea and L-Theanine, Acai Berry Select gives you a distinctive edge over simple Acai extract alone when trying to lose weight.

To see more great details on ACAI Berry Select - CLICK HERE.

Check out additional Feedback and Details Below:

Oprah.com - Dr. Perricone’s 10 Superfoods

Acai
No. 1: Açaí
Nature’s Energy Fruit
It may seem odd to start this list of superfoods with one you’ve likely never even heard of. But studies have shown that this little berry is one of the most nutritious and powerful foods in the world! Açaí (ah-sigh-ee) is the high-energy berry of a special Amazon palm tree. Harvested in the rainforests of Brazil, açaí tastes like a vibrant blend of berries and chocolate. Hidden within its royal purple pigment is the magic that makes it nature’s perfect energy fruit. Açaí is packed full of antioxidants, amino acids and essential fatty acids. Although açaí may not be available in your local supermarket, you can find it in several health food and gourmet stores (often in juice form). A new product featuring the unsweetened pulp is now also available, and I highly recommend that you choose this form of açaí.

Açaí pulp contains:

  • A remarkable concentration of antioxidants that help combat premature aging, with 10 times more antioxidants than red grapes and 10 to 30 times the anthocyanins of red wine.
  • A synergy of monounsaturated (healthy) fats, dietary fiber and phytosterols to help promote cardiovascular and digestive health.
  • An almost perfect essential amino acid complex in conjunction with valuable trace minerals, vital to proper muscle contraction and regeneration.

The fatty acid content in açaí resembles that of olive oil, and is rich in monounsaturated oleic acid. Oleic acid is important for a number of reasons. It helps omega-3 fish oils penetrate the cell membrane; together they help make cell membranes more supple. By keeping the cell membrane supple, all hormones, neurotransmitter and insulin receptors function more efficiently. This is particularly important because high insulin levels create an inflammatory state, and we know, inflammation causes aging.

Can your child be a Trendy Tot? - Celebrity Kid’s Fashions for Less

Celebrity Kid’s Fashions for Less..

Check out this great article that talks about Celebrity Fashion for Less - Just like the adult fashion world, kid clothing trends follow not only what the celebrities are wearing but also what their kids are wearing. Celebrities spend enormous amounts of money on fashion for their children as well as their pets, so it can be expected that designers are catering to that demand. For most people, some of the outfits are far too expensive, but not all of these styles are unaffordable. There are many boutiques both in-store and online providing the latest in celebrity trends at moderate prices. Here is a short fashion preview to help in the search for great kid’s fashion.

Possibly the most popular clothing brand for every age kid from tweens to babies is “Glamajama.” This casual wear made from extremely soft, brushed cotton is comfortable and stylish. Glamajamas have a distinct glam rock appeal, with quirky slogans and metallic studs that keep kids comfy with a little humor. The matching lounge sets are very popular with celebrity moms.

“Crib Rock Couture” is another booming children’s designer that has celebrities flocking. By combining nursery rhymes with hip rock ‘n’ roll designs, Crib Rock Couture is leading the industry in cool rock t-shirts and tees. Just like vintage wear is coming back in adult fashion, the Little Miss Muffet, the Three Blind Mice, and more classic nursery rhymes are coming back to give these hip Crib Rock Couture t-shirts a great throwback rock ‘n’ roll look. Just like the Glamajamas, they can be ordered online rather than having to travel to LA and shop on rodeo drive.

Online shopping opens up a world of fashion, especially for kid’s clothes. So many of the top designers are located in LA and until recently could only be found in retail stores. Now, ordering online has made it possible for people all over the world to get their hands on the latest fashions without a trip to California. A prime example of this for children’s wear is Fred Segal. Located on Melrose in LA, the Fred Segal department store is now available online. There are also a variety of retail vendors online who provide the latest in designer kid clothes. Lifesizkids.com is a great example of a retailer providing the best in trendy children’s wear. As you search online, keep your eye out for names like True Religion, Oink Baby, Fortune Tees, Diesel, Bare Foot Dreams, and Angelic Genius. These are some of the top names in children’s fashion, and if you get a chance to shop in LA, you will find many of these names on childrens clothes hangers in the upscale shops. SHOEBUY.com (Trendy Mom Discount Pick)

Hush Puppies Kids Cha Cha (Girls') - Red Smooth Hush Puppies Kids Cha Cha (Girls’) - Red SmoothBallerina flat style with in smooth leather with fun details and lightweight rubber sole. Cushioned footbed for comfort. Mary jane strap. Available Colors: Black Smooth, Red Smooth.

This is just the beginning of searching for children’s fashion. Just because you might not have a celebrity budget or your own designer doesn’t mean your kids can’t dress that way. Keep your eye out for sales and online promotions. All of these innovative children’s designers are offering specials and discounts constantly, so once you have found the style you are looking for, just keep shopping and you can find the perfect outfits.

FALL recipes perfect for thanksgiving

Glazed Carrots

Serves about 8
water
2 pounds carrots, peeled and cut in large chunks
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

In a large saucepan over medium heat, in 1 inch boiling water heat carrots and 1/2 teaspoon salt to boiling. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 15 minutes or until tender-crisp; drain. Add butter, sugar, nutmeg and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Return mixture to heat and cook, stirring constantly, until carrots are glazed.

Pecan Stuffed Squash

Serves about 8
2 (13-3/4 ounce) cans chicken broth
4 small acorn squash, halved and seeded
2/3 cups butter or margarine
4 cups dry herb-seasoned stuffing mix
2 (2-ounce) packages pecan pieces
2/3 cups seedless raisins

Pre-heat oven to 400 F. Reserve 1-1/3 cup broth, then pour remaining broth into a shallow baking dish. Place squash cut-side down in the broth. Bake 30 minutes. In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, heat reserved broth and butter or margarine until the butter (or margarine) melts. Stir in stuffing mix, pecans and raisins. Remove squash from oven, turn squash over, cut side up. Spoon stuffing into squash cavities. Bake 20 minutes more or until squash is is done, basting with broth every 10 minutes.

Butternut Squash Crisp

Serves about 8

For the filling:
3 large eggs
3 cups cooked butternut squash, mashed
1-1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, at room temperature

For the topping:
1/4 cup butter
3 cups crushed cornflakes
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Pre-heat oven to 400 F and grease a 9 x 13 x 2″ baking dish.In a mixing bowl with an electric mixer, beat eggs until lemon colored. Beat in the rest of the filling ingredients until mixture is homogenous. Place mixture in prepared baking dish and bake until set, about 20 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare the topping by mixing well all of the topping ingredients. Remove squash mixture from oven and evenly sprinkle the topping over the squash. Return to oven and bake another 10 to 15 minutes or until the topping crisps

Cranberry Nut Cake

Serves about 12

Pre-heat oven to 300 F. Grease and flour a bunt cake pan.  In a mixing bowl, combine the cranberries, almonds, orange zest and 1/2 cup flour. Set aside. In a large mixing bowl, beat together butter and sugar until creamy. Beat in vanilla, almond, and eggs, one at a time. Set aside.  In another mixing bowl, stir together remaining flour, baking powder, and salt.  Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Stir in cranberry mixture.  Bake for 55 to 65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the the center of the cake comes out clean.
Cool cake on a wire rack for 10 minutes, then turn out onto the rack to cool completely.  When completely cool, wrap cake in aluminum foil and store in a cool place for a few days to allow it to soften and the flavors to mingle. Before serving, dust with icing sugar.  For best flavor, make this cake a few days before serving.

1 lb. can solid-pack pumpkin
1 tablespoon cinnamon
