Biggest Looser Low Down

Get the Biggest Loser Low Down
As a busy working mom I have to admit that one of the biggest thing that has gone to my waist side besides an extra 10 pounds is the time to work out. We can always find excuses and I have no doubt that you, just like me have a closet full of items you keep saying you are saving for when you drop the extra weight. Well I was reminded today about how good it feels to take even 45 minutes of Me time to work out. Today I had my Biggest Loser wake up call. Back in my pre-mommy days and early mommy days I always made time to stay fit, where did I go wrong. Trust me I try to find ways around the house to stay fit: Lunges while vacuuming, squats using my 2 yr old (or what I like to call my 25 lb personal weight)
What could be better though then 30 minutes of ME time where you can loose up to 500 calories. That’s right you can burn off at least 500 calories in half an hour in the average Spin class. I found myself chatting with an old work out friend, and her and her hubby are recent Biggest Loser fans. She mentioned a piece that The Biggest Loser trainer Bob Harper shared about his favorite fitness tip and how it inspired her and her husband to finding out more. Well off I went, I had to learn more about how to loose that extra 500 calories a day and I hopped online to view the Biggest Loser video on SPIN. Give it a watch: I bet you’ll be glad you did, I know I am. This Trendytip.com momma is looking forward to hoping into the next SPIN Class at our local YMCA and burning those extra calories before the holidays.

How has Pumpkin Carving changed so much since I was a kid. My 7 yr old daughter came home from school with the simple statement that they were having the a Pumpkin Carving contest in her class and of course the statement we all melt with - “MOM I really want to win”
Well Thank goodness for the internet and a creative mind we came up with the below Pumpkin Burger. It turned out so good I was surprised but in all truth, the coolest part of our Pumpkin Carving this year was the great time we had trying something different.
Trendy Tip Life Lesson Learned - Sometimes doing something different from the old traditions can make a new Trendy Tradition all your own. Needless to say, I am not sure that Halloween and Pumpkin Carving will ever be the same at my house.

Cafe Press - Making your words come alive!
October 23, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
Ladies there’s really no better way to say what
you mean without saying a word!
In the ongoing search for fun ways to express myself, I stumbled upon CafePress and I was hooked. For those of you that are old enough to remember Ally McBeal you will remember the quirk antics and outlandish imagination that would come alive (dancing baby). My favorite part of the show was the ability to show Ally’s imagination come alive, those things she would imagine doing but would never actually do. The things she would imagine saying, but no one would ever expect to hear coming out of her mouth. Well for me Café Press offers that and more. To those who know and love me, I am the smart mouthed mom that will say anything, well now I don’t have to say it, I can bring my personality and thoughts alive in a variety of ways..

Healthy and Cheep - Home Cooked Meals
October 19, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
Everyone is seeing a hit to the pockets and purses these days with the increase in prices for food and fuel. Eating Healthy can still be economical and it eating out less and make more meals at home can be the key.
Eating out may be easier but it creates an opportunity for you to indulge in foods that aren’t exactly on the healthy list. Take advantage of the healthy benefits of Home-cooked meals, it will help to save money and create a healthier diet for you and your family.
It’s easy to get started on your Home Cooked Meal kick. Pick out some favorite recipes, face it these days there are so many ways to find healthy recipes online you have no excuses. Now use some of the tips here to start thinking of healthier alternatives to substitute for standard ingredients in the recipe. Use some of the suggestions below, and your boring cooking will have an added but healthier kick. Before you know it the family won’t be begging to go out to eat but they’ll be begging you for another helping.
-
Whole grains. It’s easy to replace white-flour pastas and white rice with wheat pastas, brown rice, wild rice, bulgur, barley, or quinoa and your family won’t even notice. You can also replace half or more of the white flour in a recipe with whole-wheat flour what a healthy difference it will make.
-
Portions - smaller amounts. Often you can reduce the amounts of oil, sugar, and salt that a recipe calls for — and no one will know the difference. Don’t forget you can use other, healthier seasonings and extracts to add more flavor.
-
Low-fat. Choose lean cuts of meat, or go vegetarian alternatives – Tofu.
-
Low Fat Dairy products - slim and skim. When it comes to dairy products, choose low-fat versions of milk, cheeses, or yogurts.
-
Vegetables and Fruits. When a recipe calls for veggies or fruits don’t skimp in fact, don’t be afraid to add more. Even if a recipe doesn’t call for veggies, add them any way. Veggies can add the added nutrition you need as well as additional color for pazaz.
-
Substitutions. Did you know that you can sometimes use apple sauce as a replacement for butter or oil in recipes for baked goods? Egg whites instead of full eggs or wine, vinegar, or broth in place of oil for cooking.
-
The most important thing is to be creative and add some of your favorite’s recipes to create healthier meals.

How to Increase Your Metabolism - Are they Myth’s?
October 15, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
How to Increase Metabolism – The myth’s about how Weight Loss Products Affect Metabolism
With weight loss and the importance of body image increasing, the number of new products supporting weight loss has spread like wild fire. These products range in claims from improving metabolic rates to assisting with appetite suppression. These products make claim that their varied contents will help better metabolic rate there for burn more calories bringing about faster weight loss. One major concern among consumer is that many of these products are not FDA Approved and/or haven’t been reviewed by certified professionals. Since there is no formal or documented review, these products claims or results are under strong skepticism as there is no way to certify that they are fact. My recommendation is that the next time you go searching for weight loss support or a product to help you on your way to weight loss, you do your own research. When I say do your own research I don’t mean read labels. The labels of the product will likely not have the FDA approval and won’t warn of negative side effects that may occur. Remember not having FDA approvals doesn’t automatically mean that the product will not help. Educate yourself! There are products prepared with herbal combinations that have received rave reviews on their results on weight loss as well as effect on energy levels. One of the best methods to certify the reliability of product claims is to read public reviews on products. These public reviews are typically done by actual users, people just like you that want to share the pro’s and con’s that they experienced when using such products. Their claims are personal and will give you a real life understanding of side effects and realistic results. In addition look for reviews from general forum on weight loss. Negative reviews can sometimes be the best source of information – remember take the combination of information to make a good decision on which of these metabolism boosting products is for you.

The Perfect After School Snack
October 15, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
The PERFECT After School Snack
As the School Year kicks into gear lunch boxes are being packed, lunch money is being counted and thousands of parents and children are drawing battle lines over the important issue of after-school snacks.
Racing from School to after school activities doesn’t help the cause, as the simple solutions for after school snacks typically lead to a closet of unhealthy alternatives like chips, sugary juice boxes and the list goes on.
Left to their own devices, the average grade-schooler can quickly come up with a list of items that they would dig into if not for the guidance of their parents. Now lets get realistic we aren’t gong to convince our children to head home and peel a fresh carrot or jump into a bag of granola, but it is possible to make an after snack healthy and easy. The Perfect After School Snack.
Good News there is a middle ground when it comes to the Perfect After school snack. Yes that is right something that appeals to your child’s sweet tooth but still hits your list of a healthy menu.
Here are just a few quick ideas to fill the bellies of your school ager that will tide them over until dinner without turning them into the overweight kids we hear about every time we turn on a health-related show. Ask yourself; “Are you making your kids FAT?”
Starting Simple
When I say “raisins,” – Don’t think boring. There are several great ways you can convince your child to eat those little purplish dried grapes and love it.
· How about a preparing a few stalks of celery and your favorite jar of peanut butter and add those great raisins to the top for a little sweet kick. These also travel well, provided you don’t overstuff, for school lunch packing.
· A Healthy alternative to Oatmeal Raisin Cookies – Use Sugar alternatives and Apples Sauce as a substitute to Oil – This traditional cookie your kids love can be made healthy and they won’t even know the difference.
Who knew that Jerky could be a healthy snack – now you know.
· Beef, chicken or turkey jerky is another great, simple snack. Watch the spice, though! Some of the big national brands specialize in “peppered” jerky that can be a bit too intense for young palates.
Meat and Cheese Roll Ups are a hit with my kids they could be with yours too.
· Give your kid a piece of deli meat and a piece of string cheese, and they’ll probably eat it, but roll the cheese up in the meat and slap one of those “party” toothpicks and this simple snack now becomes something special and they’ll sure to be asked for more.
· Another great idea is tortilla rollups, with small (or halved) flour tortillas used to roll up anything from peanut butter to cheese spreads to tuna or ham salad.
Fresh Fruits
· Weather it’s just having fresh fruits hanging around the house or creating a bit of variety by cutting the apple into French Fry slices instead of wedges. That little bit of variety can make all the difference.
Remember Get your Kids involved. Teaching Healthy Eating Habits early can make all the difference and if you get them involved you may be surprised at the ideas they will come up with.
Another quick hint is to Hang a Food Pyramid on the fridge and remind your kids to
The updated Food Guide Pyramid offers specialized recommendations based on age, height, weight and activity levels. Go to MyPyramid.gov to get your recommendations.

Halloween Parties Made Easy
October 12, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
Halloween Parties Made Easy Traditional Trick or Treating door to door is only one way to enjoy Halloween. How about a Spooktacular neighborhood Halloween party?
Here are a few recipes to get you started.
This fun finger food is the perfect bit size snack. Just for fun serve them on a platter with a bowl of BLOOD (Katchup)
Mini Hot Dogs or 1 package of Franks cut into 4ths
1 package crescent dinner rolls 8 rolls
1 small package of Almond Slivers
Hide the Hot dogs into the crescent rolls (kind of like a pig in a blanket) press a fork on the top to create the illusion of finger wrinkles. Take 2 almond slivers and poke them into the end as if creating the look of the nail of a finger. Bake in the over 375 and Bake for 12 minutes.
These ghoulish goodies make great party tray decorations. For a fun presentation, stick them in a “graveyard” of chocolate frosting or pudding and invite the kids to scoop to their hearts’ content.
2 ½ c. all-purpose flour
1 c. powdered sugar
2 sticks unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
1 large egg, beaten
1 ½ tsp. pure vanilla extract
Mix flour and sugar together well. Add remaining ingredients and combine well. Divide dough into two sections and wrap well in plastic wrap or put in zipper-lock plastic bag. Refrigerate at least two hours or overnight.
Put the kids to work making cookie cutters out of cardboard, or find the cutters at your local party store.
When the dough is chilled, roll each section to about 1/8-inch thickness and let the kids go to work with their cookie cutters. Older kids can even use plastic knives or pastry cutters to cut their shapes from the dough. If desired, use cookie stamps to put things like “RIP” on the tombstones. (You can make a cookie stamp out of a potato. Just cut in the desired stamp design.)
Bake on parchment-lined cookie sheets at 350° F for 10-12 minutes. Cool on racks.
This one is great fun for even the youngest kids. You can even make the decoration one of the party events!
Bake your favorite chocolate cupcakes, either homemade or from a boxed mix.
Frost them with chocolate frosting, then top with a generous sprinkle of crushed chocolate cookies (Oreos work really well).
Cut the Gummi worms in half, and stick them into the tops of the cupcakes so they look like they’re crawling out or burrowing in.
The kids can do as much of the decorating as their age and patience will allow, from the frosting through the worms.
Happy Halloween!

Halloween Fun Raiser
October 11, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
Halloween Fun – Making a difference!
Like many of you we have spent the last few weeks searching for the perfect Halloween costume. For my daughter and I this also is a time of excitements as we get ready for our 3trd annual Trick or Treat for Canned Goods Food Drive. 3 years ago my daughter and I found ourselves throwing away much of the candy she had collected while out Trick or Treating. What a waste I thought. It got me thinking; I knew I had read articles about other kids taking Halloween as an opportunity to collection donations for other organizations. Scared that my then 5 yr old daughter would think I was crazy, I threw out the idea of “Trick or Treating for Canned Goods” instead of candy. To my surprise she bit, in fact she was so excited that she couldn’t wait for the following Halloween to get started.
Now let me explain –I know it isn’t normal for a 5 yr old to take so easily to an idea like this, but as a self proclaimed Volunteer Addict I had already exposed my daughter to volunteering through helping out at the local food shelters and just toting her around when ever I was out doing community work. To my surprise it took and she couldn’t wait to help out the people from the shelter. For others this might be a great idea for kids that are 3 – 5th grade that still enjoy dressing up but don’t need all the candy and junk to go along with it.
-
Our plan is simple and the results were amazing. Each year we have increased our donations collected and each year my daughter gets more and more excited to beat the year before. The first year we received an overwhelmingly positive response from the 2 neighborhoods that we included in our Trick Or Treat Food Drive. In all we collected over 800 lbs of food to donate to our local Food Pantry. That is right 800 lbs from around 100 houses collected from. The second year, people were looking out for our donation bags and eager to help again. In the second year we were able to increase our donations to 985 lbs . WOW we had no idea what a success this idea would turn out to be. Our Scary Simple Plan to Make a Difference!
- Select a fun Halloween Costume
- Create a Spooky flyer
- Update everyone on your goals and what you are doing
- Detail the times you will be picking up donations on Halloween night
- Detail a wish list of donation items
- Information on where the items will be donated – a great way to tell people about other opportunities to volunteer with their family
- List a phone number to contact if they have questions
- Get Paper Grocery Bags from a local Grocery Store (our local Family Fare – Spartan Store) was happy to help
- Staple the flyers to the exterior of the bags
- Deliver the bags to the houses you have selected to visit on Halloween night. (you can either hang them on the doors or put them nicely into mailboxes)
- LAST BUT DEFINITELY NOT LEAST – Head out for a fun night of Trick or Treating and collect all the donations.
-
Make it a family event - Parents this is where you will be a big help but make this a family event. My daughter now 7 helps with all the preparation from making the flyer to delivering them to the houses (about a week ahead of Halloween) The day we deliver is a great day out walking around the neighborhood and dropping off the bags house by house, it really adds to her excitement in anticipation for Halloween night. On Halloween night you will need a vehicle ideally a Van, SUV or Truck. My hubby has taken on the role of driver while my daughter and I travel house to house Trick or Treating for Canned Goods and quickly gathering them into the back of our SUV. Every year we find more and more people asking about what we are doing and we hope that in years to come we will see more kids out hitting the streets and helping their community through a TRICK OR TREAT for Canned Goods Food drive of their own.
We hope that we have inspired each of you to think outside of yourselves on an every day basis and take time to help those around you. Please remember that there are so many people less fortunate then us and that you can make a difference.
Have a Spooktacular time!
Halloween really is a great opportunity to help your kids use there imagination and creativity, but it can also be a great opportunity for your kids to do something GREAT to help others.
